Big Centre County Rainbow

This photo submission comes to us from Bryan Doyle. Another member of our following introduced by the intern, Harry Tomlin. This is a great picture of a pretty huge rainbow from Central Pennsylvania. So thanks Bryan for sending this to us and thanks Harry for pointing him in our direction! 

Keep the pictures coming and we will keep posting them. I'm missing central PA trout fishing more and more every day... 

Here you go fella's, got this huge bow early this morning in central pa. I'd like to keep the location on the down low since its hard to find public waters that isn't regulated with fish like this swimming around, I like to call it my little honey hole. However, I caught this bow on a size 16 frenchie in about a mile of non stocked water while fishing for wild browns. I also released the fish after a few photos to catch again someday.

The Intern's in Canada!

For those of you who don't know, Harry Tomlin is whom we call the intern. Harry was a co-worker of mine at TCO, who became a fishing buddy, and now is just a good friend. Harry is a fish bum, he came out of retirement to work for a fly shop because he loves fishing. Since we began the blog he has been a huge supporter of it, so much so that we decided to give him an "unpaid internship." Which is ironic because we don't have any money to pay him anyway. Harry had a slow start to his intern duties but he has been earning his wings. 

This week the intern was in Canada catching Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass on the fly. Here is a little recap of his trip with an introduction from his son, Scott. Enjoy!

Hi guys,

Love the blog. My dad got me hooked on it. It is so impressive that you guys have something new on there every day. As you know the Intern had the week off to fish in Canada. While he did plenty of fishing himself, he still had to choose my flies and tie them on. Got to keep him busy. He also let me use the new Hatch 4 plus!!! It was amazing. Here is a picture of him performing his basic guiding duties. Notice the shirt and the Hatch reel on the old Sage 6 weight. There was an 18in (me) and a 17 in (Dad) bass on the end of that rod. Guess the Intern did it again!

Hey guys hope all is well,

I've been traveling a bit. My son Scott and I just back from annual trek to Northern Ontario. Lady Evelyn lake near New Liskard Ontario about six hours above Toronto. The place is called Island Ten and yes it is on an island in the middle of the lake. Remote but not exactly roughing it. Fishing was a little tough but we were only ones in camp using fly rods and fishing for pike and bass. Rest of camp was a bunch of Ohio and michigan walleye fisherman who did not react well when we told them to back off when they started all the Penn State Sandusky BS. We had a few bad days but found the fish and were productive and had lots of action. No huge pike mostly in mid 20's range missed a lot and the intern learned again the need for not using 5x tippet on pike. That did not work well at all. My son out-fished me as always. We had a secret bass spot in downed timber stumps just a quarter mile from the island camp. The spot was producing 17 inch and up smallmouth consistently on poppers just at dusk on calm nights. Everything had to be right which it was about four of the seven nights, it was wild. We moved so many big, aggressive bass it was unbelievable, Caught a few too.

Spring Creek Submission!

Special thanks to Bryan Doyle who sent us a beautiful picture of a Brown Trout taken on Spring Creek.  The picture shows how big the trout was but I'm sure it was a treat to witness up close and personal!  Harry "The Intern" Tomlin does another excellent job in pointing fly-fisherman in our direction. Hello, I was in TCO today talking to Harry Tomlin and showed him this brown I caught last week on Spring Creek along Benner Pike in the McCoy section. He was impressed and told me to email the pic to you guys. I figured it was close to 20 inches.

Harry T fishing report!

Hey guys hope all is well. Went to the Spring Creek church Sunday morning, the tricos must have been chased by the rain but got this fish on an ant. I fished close to the bank in the shade.

Just saying, finally succeeded taking a picture without a bunch of fish handling. I'm a believer in this nomad net, light easy to carry in your belt and it floats perfectly. Check them out at nomad fly fishing, Kevin is a good guy. thanks and peace

Harry what pattern were you using? Just a standard foam ant has always been great for me... either that or the sunken epoxy ant.. Let us know! Either way nice fish and cool picture! Good work intern. 

The Intern Strikes Back

Harry T. the long lost intern came back to us this week with a great story and a good picture to go with it. Harry I am excited about this net you are talking about. I'd like to get a better look at it as I am in the market for a flats fishable net that will stay up high and is light weight. This thing sounds like it could be a good bet! Anyways congrats on the photo keep up the good work intern.

It's a pretty shitty picture but it was almost dark on spring creek near the gun range. I could tell because the smell of sulphur or whatever Cordite? was still in the air. Anyway a decent fish maybe 12 but the big deal is: a) i was by myself and got a picture b) got to use my new " nomad net " carbon fiber super light very cool. Promise better pictures to come. I'm headed to hawaii for 10 days. Jared hooked me up with guide in hawaii to do some flats fishing for bones. Watch for some bad ass embarassing photos of me hooking the guide with some crazy fly. Looks like you guys are having fun. I promise to get my intern mojo in gear and give kirk some help from this end.

My brother Brett finally got a chance to get out on the water and he took advantage of it. Shown below is one of the best fish he landed! Thankfully for us he got a picture. This fish was landed on Spring Creek with a Pheasant Tail Nymph. Brett Loves the P. Tails and actually taught me how to tie them, way back when he knew more about fishing than me. Ha! Thanks brother hope you enjoyed the water!
